ADVANCE QUARTERLY ACCOUNTS (ACET). II/2021
The GDP of the Basque Country rose by 2% and employment increased by 2.1% in the second quarter of 2021
Compared to the second quarter of 2020, GDP recovered by 18.5% and employment by 16.6%
The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the Basque Country accelerated in the second quarter of 2021, up 2.0% in relation to the previous quarter, according to estimates for the Advance Quarterly Accounts made by EUSTAT. This is the fourth quarter in a row with positive quarter-on-quarter variation rates.
In respect of the second quarter of 2020, marked by the exceptional restrictions adopted to combat the COVID-19 health crisis, the GDP of the Basque Country rose by 18.5%.
Employment, measured as full-time equivalent jobs, rose by 2.1% compared to the previous quarter, the fourth consecutive quarter with no negative variations. Compared to the same quarter of the previous year, recovery was estimated at 16.6%.
On 17 September 2021 EUSTAT will publish the disaggregated estimates of GDP and Employment in its Quarterly Accounts for the second quarter of 2021, after incorporating the relevant information that was not available when these Advance Quarterly Accounts were prepared, as well as the re-estimations of the 2019 and 2020 annual macro-magnitudes.
