CONSTRUCTION COSTS INDEX. MAY 2021
Construction costs in the Basque Country rose by 1.3% in May 2021 in respect of the previous month
In relation to the same month of the previous year, May 2021 on May 2020, costs increased by 2.1%
The Construction Costs Index in the Basque Country increased by 1.3% in May 2021 in respect of the previous month, according to EUSTAT data. Costs increased by 2.1% in year-on-year terms.
Costs in the Building sector increased by 1.2% in month-on-month terms and those in the Civil Works sector were up 2.0%. In relation to May 2020, for its part, prices increased by 2.0% in the case of Building and 2.4% in that of Civil Works.

Compared to the previous month, costs of raw materials rose by 1.7% whereas labour costs remained stable (0.0%). In year-on-year terms, costs of raw materials increased by 2.2%, while labour costs rose by 1.9%.
In May 2021, the Building sector posted a month-on-month increase of 1.5% in the cost of its raw materials and the Civil Works sector a rise of 2.7%. In their year-on-year evolution, costs of raw materials in Building increased by 2.1%, whereas in Civil Works they rose by 2.5%.
The prices of raw materials consumed by sector that registered the greatest increases in April 2021 on April 2020, included those in the following sectors: Oil Refining, with an increase of 40.8%; Metallurgy, up 14.9%; and Electronic Material, with a rise of 10.5%. In contrast, those sectors with reductions in prices were Non-Metallic Minerals, which decreased by 2.6%, and Manufacture of machinery, with a drop of 1.0%.
