LARGE STORES AND FOOD CHAINS TRADE INDEX OF THE BASQUE COUNTRY. JANUARY 2020
Sales in large stores and food chains in the Basque Country fell by 0.6% in January 2020
With regards to the previous month they were up 0.2%
Sales at large stores and food chains in the Basque Country in January 2020 experienced a year-on-year downturn at constant prices of 0.6% in homogenous terms of the working calendar, according to Eustat data. Compared to December 2019, sales were up 0.2% in deseasonalised terms.
Sales of food products at large stores and food chains reflected a rise of 0.3%, and sales corresponding to other items experienced a downturn of 2.0%, with respect to the same month of the previous year, once corrected for calendar effects.
By province, compared to the same month of the previous year, in Álava there was an increase of 0.2%, in Bizkaia the index remained unchanged (0.0%), while in Gipuzkoa it was down 2.1%, all at constant prices and corrected for calendar effects.
Compared to the previous month, December 2019, food sales at constant prices and in deseasonalised terms, increased by 0.7% and sales of other products were down 0.9%.
The number of individuals employed in large stores and food chains in the Basque Country was up 1.5% compared to the same month of the previous year, but was down 0.8% on the previous month, in deseasonalised terms.
