INDUSTRIAL PRICE INDEX, JUNE 2019
Industrial prices in the Basque Country decreased by 0.5% in June 2019 with regards to the previous month
They were 1.2% up on the previous year (June 2019 on June 2018)
Industrial prices in the Basque Country decreased by 0.5% in June 2019 with regards to the previous month, according to EUSTAT data. With these data, the year-on-year rate for June, which indicates the fluctuation in industrial prices over the last twelve months, showed growth to be 1.2%.
A more detailed sector-level analysis reveals that in June 2019, the most inflationary branches on the previous month were: Electricity, Gas, Steam & Air Conditioning, which was up 2.7%, Electronic & Computer Products, which saw an increase of 1.8%, and Extraction Industries, with a rise of 1.4%. On the other hand, the largest decreases in prices were registered in the sectors of: Coke Plants & Oil Refining, whose prices fell by 7.3%, Water, down 1.3%, and Pharmaceutical Products, with a drop of 1.1%.
Following the classification of Goods by economic destination, compared to the previous month, Intermediate Goods rose by 0.1%, Energy fell by 2.7%, Capital Goods saw a 0.1% decrease and Consumer Goods as a whole were down 0.2%, as a result of the 0.3% decrease in prices of Consumer Non-durables and the increase in prices of Consumer Durables, up 0.5%.
In the year-on-year period, June 2019 on June 2018, the greatest increases in prices occurred within the branches of: Electricity, Gas, Steam & Air Conditioning, which rose by 9.8%, Chemical Industry, up 2.8%, and Electrical Material & Equipment, with an increase of 2.5%. By contrast, the largest registered decreases in prices corresponded to the sectors of Textile, Leather & Footwear, down 4.4%; Coke Plants & Oil Refining, with a drop of 2.3%, and Metallurgy & Metal Products, which decreased by 1.5%.
There were different price variations between the large goods groups in the year-on-year period. Energy prices rose by 4.2% and Capital Goods were up 1.8%, but the prices of Intermediate Goods fell by 0.2% and those of Consumer Goods decreased by 0.8%. Amongst the latter, the prices of Consumer Durables increased by 2.3%, while the prices of Consumer Non-durables fell by 1.3%.
