Expenditure on R&D in 2018 increased by 4.0% in the Basque Country
R&D personnel in full-time equivalent positions, for its part, rose by 3.4%
Internal expenditure on Scientific Research and Technological Development activities (R&D) was up 4.0% in the Basque Country in 2018, the third consecutive year with a positive rate, according to provisional data provided by Eustat. Similarly, R&D personnel in full-time equivalent positions rose by 3.4%.
By implementation sector, the figures for expenditure and personnel in internal R&D posted the following trends:
The main sector, Business, was up 5.0% in expenditure and 3.3% in personnel for R&D activities.
In Higher Education, expenditure increased by 4.2% and R&D personnel rose by 3.8%.
Finally, Public Administration posted a 7.2% decrease in expenditure, due to a fall in capital expenditure (investment), whereas there was a 2.7% increase in personnel dedicated to R&D activities.
Methodological note: In July 2019, Eustat has produced Advance Data on the evolution of expenditure and internal R&D personnel in 2018. The definitive data is expected to be published in November 2019.
