Sales in large stores and food chains in the Basque Country fell by 0.5% in June 2019
Accumulated sales for the first quarter of the year closed with 1.9% growth
Sales at large stores and food chains in the Basque Country in June 2019 experienced a year-on-year downturn at constant prices of 0.5% in homogenous terms of the working calendar, according to Eustat data. Compared to May, sales were down 1.3% in deseasonalised terms.
Sales of food products were up 0.5%, and sales corresponding to other items fell by 2.5%, with respect to the same month of the previous year.
Compared to the previous month, May 2019, sales of food and sales of other items have both decreased by 1.3% at constant prices and in deseasonalised terms.
By province, in Gipuzkoa there was a decrease of 1.2%, in Bizkaia there was a 0.2% fall, and in Álava there was no change (0.0%), compared to the same month of the previous year, all at constant prices and corrected for calendar effects.
The number of people employed in large stores and food chains in the Basque Country rose by 1.1% compared to the same month of the previous year, and was up 0.2% in respect of May, in deseasonalised terms. In the accumulated period of January to June, the number of people employed was up 2.5% on the same period of 2018.
