The Construction sector in the Basque Country grew by 6.6% in the first quarter of 2019
Building was up 7.3%, while Civil Works registered an increase of 0.7%
Construction activity in the Basque Country registered a year-on-year nominal upturn of 6.6% in the first quarter of 2019, in homogeneous terms of the working calendar, according to EUSTAT data.
Once corrected for seasonal factors, the Construction sector fell by 2.4% in this first quarter of 2019 compared to the fourth quarter of 2018.
The rise in the Construction sector in this quarter was due, above all, to the positive performance of the Building sub-sector, which registered a year-on-year upturn of 7.3%, whereas the Civil Works sub-sector, though it also registered an increased, did so in much more moderately (0.7%).
In quarter-on-quarter terms, if the activity of the sector in the first quarter of 2019 is compared to the previous quarter, both the Building and Civil Works sub-sectors saw a downturn. Building dropped by 2.7% and Civil Works decreased by 0.2% in the first quarter of 2019 with regards to the fourth quarter of 2018.
Employment in the Construction sector saw an increase of 1.4% in the first quarter of 2019 compared to the fourth quarter of 2018.
