CONSTRUCTION COSTS INDEX, MAY 2019
Construction costs in the Basque Country fell 0.6% in May 2019 compared to the previous month
Compared to the previous year, May 2019 on May 2018, costs rose by 2.1%
There was a 0.6% drop in Construction Costs in the Basque Country in May 2019 compared to the previous month, whilst the year-on-year rate for the same month rose by 2.1%, according to EUSTAT data.
With regards to the previous month, there was no variation in labour costs (0.0%) and the cost of raw materials fell by 0.8%.
This May, the Building sub-sector recorded a fall of 0.7% in raw materials and the Civil Works sub-sector a decrease of 1.3%. The year-on-year trends in these two sub-sectors were also similar: costs of raw materials in Building were up 1.9%, whilst costs in Civil Works posted a 2.3% rise.
The prices of raw materials consumed by sector that recorded the biggest increases in May 2019 on May 2018, included those in the following sectors: Electricity & Gas, with 6.1%, Oil Refining, up 4.3% and Chemical Industry with an increase of 3.1%. On the other hand, the sectors that saw the biggest price reductions or the smallest increases in prices of raw materials over the last twelve months were Metallurgy which was down 2.7%, Rubber and Plastics with an increase of 0.3% and Machinery, with a rise of 0.9%.
