LARGE STORES AND FOOD CHAINS TRADE INDEX OF THE BASQUE COUNTRY, NOVEMBER 2018
Sales in large stores and food chains in the Basque Country fell by 0.2% in November 2018
The accumulated total for the first eleven months of the year closed with 1.7% growth
Sales at large stores and food chains in the Basque Country in November 2018 experienced a year-on-year downturn at constant prices of 0.2% in homogenous terms of the working calendar, according to Eustat data. Compared to October, sales were down 1.8% in deseasonalised terms.
Sales of food products were down 0.5%, and sales corresponding to other items rose by 0.5%, with respect to the same month of the previous year.
Compared to the previous month, October 2018, food sales decreased by 1.2% and sales of other items were down by 3.0%, at constant prices and in deseasonalised terms.
By province, Bizkaia saw an increase of 0.1%, but Gipuzkoa recorded a drop of 0.2% and Álava a fall of 1.3%, in all cases over the year-on-year period.
The number of people employed in large stores and food chains in the Basque Country rose by 2.9% compared to the same month of the previous year.
Balance for the first eleven months of 2018
Sales at large stores and food chains in the Basque Country experienced a year-on-year upturn at constant prices of 1.7% in the accumulated total for the first eleven months of 2018. This growth was due, above all, to the increase in sales of food products, which were up by 2.0%, given that sales corresponding to other items, although they also rose, did so to a lesser extent (1.1%).
The number of people employed in large stores and food chains in the Basque Country rose by 3.2% in the first eleven months of 2018.
