LARGE STORES AND FOOD CHAINS TRADE INDEX OF THE BASQUE COUNTRY, OCTOBER 2018
Sales in large stores and food chains in the Basque Country rose by 8.0% in October 2018
The accumulated rate for the first ten months of the year closed with 1.9% growth
Sales at large stores and food chains in the Basque Country in October 2018 experienced a year-on-year upturn at constant prices of 8.0% in homogenous terms of the working calendar, according to Eustat data. Compared to September, sales were up 2.9% in deseasonalised terms.
Sales of food products were up 6.1%, and sales corresponding to other items were up 12.0%, with respect to the same month of the previous year.
Compared to the previous month, September 2018, food sales increased by 1.7% and sales of other items increased by 5.3%, at constant prices and in deseasonalised terms.
By province, Bizkaia saw an increase of 9.0%, in Gipuzkoa there was a rise of 8.5% and in Álava an increase of 3.0%, in all cases over the year-on-year period.
The number of people employed in large stores and food chains in the Basque Country rose by 4.0% compared to the same month of the previous year.
Balance for the first ten months of 2018
Sales at large stores and food chains in the Basque Country experienced a year-on-year upturn at constant prices of 1.9% in the accumulated total for the first ten months of 2018. This growth was due, above all, to the increase in sales of food products, which were up by 2.4%, given that sales corresponding to other items, although they also rose, did so to a lesser extent (1.1%).
The number of people employed in large stores and food chains in the Basque Country rose by 3.3% in the first ten months of 2018.
