LARGE STORES AND FOOD CHAINS TRADE INDEX OF THE BASQUE COUNTRY, JULY 2018
The sales index of large stores and food chains in the Basque Country rose by 0.9% in July 2018
The accumulated total for the first seven months of the year closed with 2.1% growth
Sales at large stores and food chains in the Basque Country in July 2018 experienced a year-on-year upturn at constant prices of 0.9% in homogenous terms of the working calendar, according to Eustat data. Compared to June, sales were down 0.2% in deseasonalised terms.
Sales of food products were up 0.5%, and sales corresponding to other items rose by 1.6%, with respect to the same month of the previous year.
Compared to the previous month, June 2018, food sales remained stable (0.0%) and sales of other items decreased by 0.6%, at constant prices and in deseasonalised terms.
By province, Bizkaia saw an increase of 1.6% and in Gipuzkoa there was a rise of 1.5%, however in Álava sales were down by 2.7%, in all cases over the year-on-year period.
The number of people employed in large stores and food chains in the Basque Country rose by 3.1% compared to the same month of the previous year.
Balance for the first seven months of 2018
Sales at large stores and food chains in the Basque Country experienced a year-on-year upturn at constant prices of 2.1% in the accumulated total for the first seven months of 2018. This growth was distributed into sales of food products, which were up by 2.7%, and sales corresponding to other items, which increased by 1.0%.
The number of people employed in large stores and food chains in the Basque Country rose by 3.1% in the first seven months of 2018.
