LARGE STORES AND FOOD CHAINS TRADE INDEX OF THE BASQUE COUNTRY. MAY 2018
The sales index of large stores and food chains in the Basque Country rose by 2.4% in May 2018
The accumulated total for the first five months of the year closed with 2.5% growth
Sales at large stores and food chains in the Basque Country in May 2018 experienced a year-on-year upturn at constant prices of 2.4% in homogenous terms of the working calendar, according to Eustat data. Compared to April, sales were up 0.3% in deseasonalised terms.
Sales of food products were up 3.6%, and sales corresponding to other items experienced a fall of 0.0%, with respect to the same month of the previous year.
Compared to the previous month, April 2018, food sales have increased by 0.3% and sales of other items have decreased by 0.1%, at constant prices and in deseasonalised terms.
By province, Gipuzkoa saw an increase of 3.1% and in Bizkaia there was a rise of 2.7%, however in Álava sales were down by 0.2%, in all cases over the year-on-year period.
The number of individuals employed in large stores and food chains in the Basque Country rose by 3.5% compared to the same month of the previous year. It was also up 1.5% on the previous month, in deseasonalised terms.
