LARGE STORES AND FOOD CHAINS TRADE INDEX (IGSC). JANUARY 2018
Sales in large stores and food chains in the Basque Country rose by 0.4% in January 2018
With regards to the previous month they were up 0.3%
Sales at large stores and food chains in the Basque Country in January 2018 experienced a year-on-year upturn at constant prices of 0.4% in homogenous terms of the working calendar, according to Eustat data. Compared to December 2017, sales were up 0.3% in deseasonalised terms.
Sales of food products at large stores and food chains reflected a rise of 1.7%, and sales corresponding to other items experienced a downturn of 1.6%, with respect to the same month of the previous year.
There were rises and falls in the provinces: Gipuzkoa saw a rise of 1.1%, in Bizkaia there was an increase of 0.2%, but in Álava sales were down by 0.4%, in the year-on-year period.
Compared to the previous month, December 2017, food sales have increased by 0.4% and there was no variation in other items (0.0%) at constant prices and in deseasonalised terms.
By province, compared to the previous month, December 2017, at constant prices and in deseasonalised terms, Gipuzkoa saw a rise of 0.5%, Bizkaia was up 0.2% and Álava 0.1%.
The number of individuals employed in large stores and food chains in the Basque Country rose by 2.4% compared to the same month of the previous year. It was also up 1.9% on the previous month, in deseasonalised terms.
