Press Release 29/01/2018
The GDP of the Basque Country registered 3.0% year-on-year growth in the fourth quarter of 2017
The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the Basque Country posted a year-on-year growth of 3.0% in the fourth quarter of 2017, once corrected for calendar and seasonal effects, according to the advance data prepared by EUSTAT.
Compared to the previous quarter, the month-on-month variation rate was 0.7%.
From the perspective of demand, year-on-year growth in the fourth quarter of 2017 was underpinned, above all, by the continued momentum of activity in three of the four large activity sectors: industry, construction and services. However, the primary sector posted a negative performance in the fourth quarter.
Employment, measured as full-time equivalent jobs, has increased by 2.0% compared to the same quarter of the previous year. Quarter-on-quarter growth was 0.6%.
Over2017 as a whole, the first GDP growth estimate averages 2.8%, underpinned, once again, by the positive performance of all sectors, except the Primary sector.
Also for 2017 overall, employment, measured in full-time equivalent jobs, posted an upturn of 2.1%.
