Total exports of goods from the Basque Country grew by 5.3% in August 2017, and imports grew by 20.4%
In the accumulated rate for the first eight months of 2017, exports saw a year-on-year growth of 9.3% and imports of 22.3%
There was a rise in exports of goods from the Basque Country of 5.3% in August 2017, according to EUSTAT data. They totalled 1,753 million euros compared to 1,665 million in the same month of the previous year. Exports of energy goods, which saw an increase of 56.9% compared to the previous year, were responsible for the growth. There was also a rise in exports of non-energy products, although at a more moderate rate of 1.0%. By province, in Bizkaia exports grew by 15.4% and in Gipuzkoa by 8.8%, but in Álava they fell by 13.1%.
In the accumulated rate for the first eight months of 2017, exports from the Basque Country stood at 15,599 million euros, 9.3% up on the same period of 2016.
Imports of goodsfrom the Basque Country, for their part, experienced a rise of 20.4%, reaching the figure of 1,392 million euros. As in the case of exports, energy imports saw the highest increase of 41.5%, but non-energy imports also experienced a significant growth of 14.2%. Imports in the three provinces increased in August: in Bizkaia they increased by 23.5%, in Gipuzkoa by 22.4% and in Álava by 11.0%.
For the first eight months as a whole, imports grew by 22.3% compared to the same period of 2016, standing at 12,259 million euros.
