Sales in large stores and food chains in the Basque Country fell by 0.2% in October 2017
The balance of the first ten months of 2017 closed with 2.4% growth
Sales at large stores and food chains in the Basque Country in October 2017 experienced a year-on-year downturn at constant prices of 0.2% in homogenous terms of the working calendar, according to Eustat data. Compared to September, sales were down 2.0% in deseasonalised terms.
Sales of food products at large stores and food chains reflected a rise of 1.2%, and sales corresponding to other items experienced a downturn of 2.9%.
There were rises and falls in the provinces: Álava saw a rise of 0.4%, whereas in Bizkaia there was a fall of 0.2% and in Gipuzkoa sales were down by 0.4%.
Over the first ten months of the year as a whole, sales in large stores and food chains in the Basque Country were up 2.4% with respect to the same period of the previous year, in homogeneous terms of the working calendar and at constant prices. In this period, food sales saw a 2.6% upturn overall, and other products saw an increase of 2.1%.
By province, in Bizkaia sales in the first ten months of the year rose by 2.5% at constant prices and with respect to the same period of the previous year; they were up by 2.4% in Gipuzkoa, and in Álava a 2.1% rise was recorded.
The number of individuals employed in large stores and food chains in the Basque Country rose by 2.6% compared to the previous year.
