Sales in large stores and food chains in the Basque Country rose by 3.8% in September 2017
The balance of the first nine months of 2017 closed with 2.7% growth
Sales in large stores and food chains in the Basque Country in September 2017 experienced a year-on-year upturn at constant prices of 3.8% in homogenous terms of the working calendar, according to Eustat data. Compared to August, sales were down 0.6% in deseasonalised terms.
Sales of food products in large stores and food chains reflected a rise of 2.9%, and sales corresponding to other items were also up by 5.6%.
There were increases in the three provinces: 4.0% in Bizkaia and Álava, and 3.5% in Gipuzkoa.
Over the first nine months of the year as a whole, sales in large stores and food chains in the Basque Country were up 2.7% with respect to the same period of the previous year, in homogeneous terms of the working calendar and at constant prices. In this period, food sales saw a 2.7% upturn overall and other products saw an increase of 2.6%.
By province, in Bizkaia sales in the first nine months of the year rose by 2.8% at constant prices and with respect to the same period of the previous year; they were up by 2.7% in Gipuzkoa, and in Álava a 2.4% rise was recorded.
The number of individuals employed in large stores and food chains in the Basque Country rose by 2.7% compared to the previous year.
