The sales index of large stores and food chains in the Basque Country rose by 5.9% in August 2017
The balance of the first eight months of 2017 closed with 2.5% growth
Sales at large stores and food chains in the Basque Country in August 2017 experienced a year-on-year upturn at constant prices of 5.9% in homogenous terms of the working calendar, according to Eustat data. Compared to July, sales were up 2.2% in deseasonalised terms.
Sales of food products at large stores and food chains reflected a rise of 5.1%, and sales corresponding to other items were also up by 7.6%.
There were increases in the three provinces: 6.6% in Bizkaia, 6.3% in Álava, and 4.7% in Gipuzkoa.
Over the first eight months of the year as a whole, sales in large stores and food chains in the Basque Country were up 2.5% with respect to the same period of the previous year, in homogeneous terms of the working calendar and at constant prices. In this period, food sales saw a 2.7% upturn overall and other products saw an increase of 2.2%.
By province, in Bizkaia sales in the first eight months of the year rose by 2.6% at constant prices and with respect to the same period of the previous year; they were up by 2.5% in Gipuzkoa, and in Álava 2.2% rise was recorded.
The number of individuals employed in large stores and food chains in the Basque Country rose by 3.9% compared to the same month of the previous year.
