Construction activity in the Basque Country grew by 0.5% in the third quarter of 2016
The accumulated total for the first three quarters of 2016 showed 0.7% growth
The indicator of trends in Construction activity in the Basque Country registered a year-on-year nominal upturn of 0.5% in the third quarter of 2016, in homogeneous terms of the working calendar, according to data prepared by EUSTAT.
The rise in the Construction sector in this quarter was due to the positive performance of the Building subsector, which registered a year-on-year upturn of 1.9%, whereas the Civil Works subsector contracted by 8.6%.
Once corrected for seasonal effects, the general index was down by 1.0% in the third quarter of 2016 compared to the second quarter of 2016. By sub-sector, Civil Works saw a 4.3% downturn and Building experienced a 0.5% drop.
In terms of the total for the first nine months of 2016, the Index for the Basque Country Construction sector as a whole increased by 0.7% compared to the same period of 2015, marked by the positive performance of Building, which has seen accumulated growth of 2.6% so far this year. This is despite the fact that Civil Works posted a drop of 10.9% over the 9 months.
Employment in the Construction sector saw a decrease of 0.1% in the third quarter of 2016 compared to the second quarter of 2016.
