The Construction sector in the Basque Country grew by 3.5% in the second quarter of 2016
Accumulated growth in the first quarter of 2016 was 1%
Construction activity in the Basque Country registered a year-on-year nominal upturn of 3.5% in the second quarter of 2016, in homogeneous terms of the working calendar, according to data prepared by EUSTAT.
The rise in the Construction sector in this quarter was due to the positive performance of the Building subsector, which registered a year-on-year upturn of 6.2%, whereas the Civil Works subsector contracted by 11.2%.
Once corrected for seasonal effects, in the second quarter of 2016 the Construction sector grew by 1.9% compared to the first quarter of 2016.
In quarter-on-quarter terms, if the activity of the sector in the second quarter of 2016 is compared to the previous quarter, the Civil Works subsector posted a downturn of 2.8%, whereas the Building subsector rose by 2.7%.
In terms of the total for the first quarter of 2016, the Construction sector of the Basque Country was up 1.0% on the same period of 2015.
Employment in the Construction sector saw an increase of 0.2% in the second quarter of 2016 compared to the first quarter of 2016.
