Alto Deba is the region that stands out in terms of the percentage of companies of 10 or more employees that use information technology in 2014
47.2% of those who have a website in the Basque Country have it in the Basque language, a figure that reaches 61.1% in Gipuzkoa
Companies of 10 or more employees in the Basque Country, with the exception of the use of e-Commerce, showed high levels of ICT (Information & Communication Technology) equipment in 2014, especially in the region of Alto Deba, according to data provided by Eustat.
In companies of this size with Internet connections, special mention should be made of the regions of Montaña Alavesa and Estribaciones del Gorbea in Álava, and of Encartaciones and Markina-Ondarroa in Bizkaia, with 100%. The region of Tolosa stands out in Gipuzkoa, reaching 99.6%.
Companies of 10 or more employees with internet access and who carry out procedures with public administrations in electronic form were more numerous in the regions of Markina-Ondarroa in Bizkaia (99.5%), of Montaña Alavesa in Álava (96.8%), and of Alto Deba and Goierri in Gipuzkoa (95.3%).
As regards Internet presence via a website, special mention should be made of companies in the regions of Alto Deba in Gipuzkoa (93.4%), Cantábrica Alavesa in Álava (89.1%) and Gran Bilbao in Bizkaia (87.3%).
In terms of computer networks, the regions of Estribaciones in Bizkaia (100%), Valles Alaveses and Estribaciones del Gorbea in Álava (98.1%), and of Alto Deba in Gipuzkoa (97.7%) all stood out.
Furthermore, the highest percentages of companies with 10 or more employees using open-source programs were in Montaña Alavesa in Álava (94.3%), Markina-Ondarroa in Bizkaia (89.5%) and Alto Deba in Gipuzkoa (85.1%).
Lastly, regarding the use of e-Commerce (purchases or sales via electronic means), in companies of this size, although the percentages reached were considerably lower, it is worth mentioning the regions of Urola Costa in Gipuzkoa (38.0%), Markina-Ondarroa in Bizkaia (35.3%) and Estribaciones del Gorbea in Álava (33.0%).
Availability of Basque on Basque company websites
Websites available in Basque were most prominent in companies located in the regions of Gipuzkoa. Thus, in this province they reached 74.8% of those found in companies in Alto Deba and 68.2% of those in Goierri, exceeding 56% in the other regions of Gipuzkoa.
Following these were those in Bizkaia, where it was possible to access the language in over half of the websites situated in Markina-Ondarroa (59.3%) and Gernika-Bermeo (58.8%).
Lastly, in Álava Montaña Alavesa stood out, where 50.0% of websites were available in Basque, with this percentage dropping in the other regions.
In the Basque capitals, there were similar percentages of ICT equipment in companies of 10 or more employees. It was only in Donostia-San Sebastián that websites available in Basque stood out, where their percentage is higher.
