INDUSTRIAL PRICE INDEX OF THE BASQUE COUNTRY (IPRI) NOVEMBER 2013
They were 0.9% down on the previous year (November 2013 on November 2012)
Industrial prices in the Basque Country decreased by 0.1% in November 2013 compared to the previous month, according to data provided by EUSTAT. With these data, the year-on-year rate for November, which indicates the fluctuation in industrial prices over the last twelve months, registered a drop of 0.9%.
A more detailed analysis by sector reveals that in November 2013 the branches up on last month were Furniture & Other Manufacturing Industries with an increase of 0.7%, Plastic & Rubber with a rise of 0.3%, and Chemical Industry, which increased by 0.2%. However, the biggest price decreases were seen in the sectors of Extractive Industries (-1.5%), Manufacture of Computer, Electronic & Optical Products (-0.6%), and Manufacture of Electrical Material & Equipment (-0.4%).
In the year-on-year period, from November 2012 to November 2013, the greatest increase in prices occurred within the branches of Plastic & Rubber with a rise of 5.4%, Manufacture of Machinery and Equipment, up by 2.1% and Manufacture of Transport Material, where prices rose by 1.1%. In contrast, there were decreases in prices corresponding to the sectors of, among others, Coke Plants & Oil Refining and Metallurgy & Metal Products, both down 3.1%, and Manufacture of Electrical Material & Equipment, which decreased by 2.6%.
According to the classification of Goods by economic destination, the evolution of prices in the large sectorial groups varied in November: Energy experienced a drop of 0.2%, as did Intermediate Goods, which were down 0.1%. Consumer Goods as a whole were up 0.1%, as a result of the rise in the prices of Consumer Durables (0.2%), while Consumer Non-durables remained stable (0.0%). Equipment Goods did not experience any variation (0.0%).
The price evolution of these large goods groups over the year-on-year period was positive only for Equipment Goods which posted a rise of 1.0%. Prices corresponding to Energy were down by 2.0%, as were those for Intermediate Goods, which were down by 1.5%, and prices corresponding to Consumer Goods as a whole witnessed a fall of 1.0%. Amongst the latter, the prices of Consumer Non-Durables dropped by 1.4%, whilst Consumer Durables were up 0.2%.
