The GDP of the Basque Country remained stable in the third quarter of 2013 compared to the previous quarter
In relation to the previous year it fell by 1.1%
In the third quarter of 2013 the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the Basque Country remained at the same level of activity as the previous quarter, with a variation of 0.0%, once corrected for calendar and seasonal effects, according to the advance data prepared by EUSTAT. This figure is one tenth below that registered for the Spanish economy, according to data published by the INE.
With regards to the same quarter of the previous year, the year-on-year fall was 1.1%, four tenths less negative than the fall registered for the second quarter. This figure is one tenth better than that achieved by the Spanish economy, which stood at -1.2%.
From the point of view of supply, all sectors registered negative year-on-year evolution in the third quarter of 2013, although for each of them the figures were slightly less negative than the figure in the preceding quarter. From the point of view of demand, the contribution of the foreign sector was still positive, and internal demand registered a negative performance, similar to that shown in the previous quarter.
Employment, measured as full time equivalent jobs, maintained negative figures when compared to the same quarter in the previous year in quarter-on-quarter terms, with rates of -2.0% and -0.3%, respectively.
