The construction sector in the Basque Country fell by 18.1% in the third quarter of 2013
Building contracted by 21.1%, whilst Civil Works registered a decrease of 12.4%
Construction activity in the Basque Country registered a year-on-year nominal downturn of 18.1% in the third quarter of 2013, in homogeneous terms of the working calendar, according to EUSTAT data.
Once corrected for seasonal effects, the Construction sector was down by 0.2% in the third quarter of 2013 compared to the second quarter of the same year.
The drop in the Construction sector in this quarter was due to both the negative performance of the Building subsector, which registered a year-on-year downturn of 21.1%, and the Civil Works subsector, which posted a fall of 12.4%.
In quarter-on-quarter terms, compared to the previous quarter, Building subsector activity in the third quarter of 2013 performed negatively (4.5%). However, the Civil Works sub-sector increased 8.4% compared to the second quarter of 2013, once corrected for seasonal factors.
Employment in the Construction sector experienced a drop of 2.7% compared to the second quarter of 2013.
