According to provisional data, spending on R&D increased by 5.1% in the Basque Country in 2010
The full-time equivalent R&D workers was up by 5.2%:
In 2010, spending on Technological Development and Scientific Research activities (R&D) was up by 5.1% in the Basque Country, according to the provisional results prepared by EUSTAT.
With regard to the total full-time equivalent R&D workers of the Basque Country, there was a 5.2% rise in number.
This increased spending and the number of R&D workers was underpinned by the positive performance posted by the implementation sectors.
Special mention should be made of the Business sector, which registered increases of 6.3% in internal expenditure and 6.9% in the number of people working in R&D.
In the Higher Education sector, spending and the number of R&D workers were up by 2.2% and 3.3%, respectively.
Finally, spending rose by 1.2% in the Public Administration sector, while the number of people employed in R&D fell by 6.5%.
Methodological note: Eustat prepared Advance Data on the performance of R&D spending and people employed for the first time in 2010. The data was prepared based on the companies, universities and entities that represented, overall, 82.7% of the total expenditure of the previous year and which was used to issue advance data in June of the results that will be published in November this year.
