Industrial activity in the Basque Country rose by 1.9% in April 2010
Compared to the previous month, March 2010, industrial production in the Basque Country increased by 0.2%
Industrial production in the Basque Country rose by 1.9% in April 2010 compared to the same month of 2009 in homogenous terms of the working calendar, according to EUSTAT data.
Compared to the previous month, March 2010, industrial production in the Basque Country increased by 0.2%, once seasonal effects had been corrected.
By sector, and using the major industrial sector classification, the evolution of the index for April 2010 compared to April 2009 was positive for Intermediary Goods and Consumer Goods, but remained negative in the other cases. Intermediary Goods rose by 6.3% and Consumer Goods were up by 3.9%, as a result of the increase posted by Consumer Non-durables (9.8%) as Consumer Durables experienced a 14.1% downturn. Energy fell by 6.0% and Capital Goods were down by 0.7%.
Inter-monthly variations in April 2010, compared to March 2010, were positive for Capital Goods (up 1.7%) and for Energy (up 10.0%) in all major industrial sectors Intermediary Goods dropped by 2.0% and Consumer Goods decreased by 1.4%, as a result of the downturn in Consumer Durables (-6.5%) as Consumer Non-durables remained unchanged (0.0%).
By province, the April year-on-year performance for the Industrial Production Index was positive in Álava, up 15.0%, and in Gipuzkoa, where it rose by 0.2%. However, it fell by 2.0% in Bizkaia. The month-on-month growth rate was positive in Bizkaia, up 1.6% on March 2010. Álava and Gipuzkoa posted downturns of 0.3% and 1.2%, respectively.
