CONSTRUCTION COSTS INDEX (ICCE) January 2003
CONSTRUCTION COSTS ROSE 2.2% IN THE A.C. OF THE BASQUE COUNTRY IN JANUARY 2003
The inter-annual growth rate (January 2003 compared with January 2002) came to 3.0%.
The Construction Costs Index grew 2.2% in January 2003, which
means the inter-annual rate for this month came to 3.0%, according to EUSTAT
data. The growth in labour costs (4.0%) marked the evolution of the General
Index in January, as the other component, raw materials costs, only increased
1.0% in this period.

In the inter-annual period (January 2003 compared to January 2002) labour costs increased 4.0%, while raw materials increased 2.3%.
The growth in total costs in January 2003 is divided similarly between its two main subsectors: Civil Works (2.5%) rose slightly more than Building (2.1%); the inter-annual evolution of these two subsectors also saw a higher rise in Civil Works (3.8%) than in Building (2.7%).
Among the raw materials prices that have undergone the highest inflation rates in January 2003 are Oil by-products (6.6%), Artificial cement (4.2%) and Asphalt products (3.3%). On the other hand, there was a reduction in average monthly prices for raw materials such as Glass (-1.8%), Office material (-1.0%) and Iron and steel (-0.1%).
