This variable refers to the main position of the person in relation with the economic activity, and may be defined as employed, unemployed or inactiv.

Employed: Persons who have a paid job or are self employed and are working, or, maintaining a formal link with their employment, were absent from work due to holidays, illness, labour conflict, technical incidents, etc.

Unemployed: Persons who have no paid or independent employment and are presently looking for employment and availbable for work.

Inactive: Persons who are not active, neither employed nor unemployed.
