Maintenance payments

Maintenance payments

These are the payments that are legally established to redress the economic imbalance that may arise from marital breakup for one of the spouses. For instance, the commitment of one of the spouses to the household and the family whilst the marriage is in effect, or the involvement of the other spouse in professional/business activity.

In most verdicts, this payment amount is not fixed, and in these statistics, such cases come under the rubric "Not applicable", which also includes same-sex couples.
