Fallow land

Fallow land

Areas of all arable land included in a crop rotation system or maintained in good agricultural and environmental condition, whether worked or not, but not intended to produce a harvest for the duration of an agricultural year.

The essential characteristic of fallow land is that it is left to recover, normally for an entire agricultural year, without being cultivated, but with some reclamation work being carried out.

Includes:

- Arable land lying fallow for less than 5 years.
- Arable land lying fallow for 5 years or more in order to comply with ecological focus area requirements.
