3D printing (additive layer manufacturing)

3D printing (additive layer manufacturing)

Additive layer manufacturing and 3D printing are equivalent terms for the same process. The latter is more widely known, while the former more precisely describes the process of binding materials to manufacture physical objects using 3D modelling, usually layer by layer. It is the opposite of subtractive manufacturing (e.g. CNC machining), which uses a rotating saw to remove material from a block of solid material.
