Bookshops are defined as privately owned establishments that are open to the public, whose primary activity is the sale of books of any type and format. In the census, only bookshops whose primary activity is the sale of books, that have an annual revenue of over €100,000 and of whose total sales revenue 30% comes from the sale of books, are included. Department stores and establishments mainly dedicated to the sale of newspapers, stationery or other related items are not included.
