This is defined as a schedule of stage productions, normally structured around a specific genre, for a limited period of time, and in which performances are held in various venues (theatres, cultural centres, streets and town squares, churches, etc.) The following criteria have been established in order to conduct the census:

• Only performing arts festivals have been taken into consideration, even though some of these may include some type of concert or musical event as an additional activity. However, festivals which only host music events have been excluded.
