Objective

In relation to the employed population, a society overcomes the periods of recession and enters phases of employment creation when it shows a steady increase in the employment rates. An indicator of these periods of economic upturn is the employment rate.

The employment ratio or employment rate of the female population aged 55 to 64 is calculated by dividing the number of employed women whose ages fall between 55 and 64 by the population of women in this age range. The indicator is based on the Survey on the Population in Relation to Activity (PRA). The survey covers the whole population living in “households” and excludes all those who live in collective dwellings, such as refuges/shelters, student residences, hospitals, etc. The employed population is made up of those people who, during the reference week, have carried out some remunerated work (either salary or benefit) for at least one hour, or who have not worked (in the reference week) but have had a job from which they were temporarily absent.
