The main objectives of this statistical operation are the following:

Measure the quarterly evolution of the construction sector activity in the autonomous community of the Basque Country.
Obtain an indicator that makes it possible to estimate the evolution of the main macro figures that, for the construction sector, appear in the economic accounts and provide executive bodies with information to help them in decision making.
Provides comparable year-on-year and quarter-on-quarter values. the construction index is therefore corrected for calendar and seasonal effects. the corrected icc provides comparable year-on-year values, while the deseasonalized icc is used for quarter-on-quarter comparisons.

Population:: The population refers to the construction activity as defined in f section of the national classification of economic activities (cnae-2009).; The survey is directed at companies that carry out construction work, exclusively or as their main business, and includes the activities of joint venture (u.t.e.) which are formed according to the percentage of participation.
Geographic scope:: The territorial scope to which the operation refers is the autonomous community of the Basque Country.
Timeframe:: The construction index is calculated quarterly.

The sample design of the construction index differentiates between companies with between 5 to 19 employees and companies with over 19 employees:

All companies with over 19 employees that figure in the eustat directory of economic activities are investigated exhaustively, forming a census stratum.
For companies with 5 to 19 employees, a random representative sample was obtained both for companies whose main activity is building and companies whose main activity is civil works.
