Sample design

The family expenditure survey is based on stratified two-staged sampling. During the first stage, the census units in which the Basque Country is divided at the time of the survey are selected. During the second stage, the family dwellings that belong to those sections are selected. All the households that have their normal place of residence in those dwellings are surveyed.

A total of 272 sections(*) are interviewed for the whole of the Basque Country, which correspond to a total of 3,536 households, according to the partnership agreement between both institutions.

- (*) Eustat collected the field information of 136 sections and the INE the other 136, in accordance with a partnership agreement between both institutions.
