Sample design
The ESI -Companies- is a survey made up of a continuous probabilistic sample, i.e. a panel on
the establishments in the A.C. of the Basque Country of all the activity sectors, with the
exception of the primary sector and domestic service.
This panel is census for establishments with 100 or more employees and sampling, divided
proportionally according to the size of each stratum, for establishments with under 100 employees
until the sample is complete with around 7,200 establishments.
In order to substitute the lack of response, the panel is renewed annually, according to the
criteria above, with those establishments newly incorporated into the Eustat Directory of Economic
Activities.
Stratification is carried out by Province, size of the establishment, grouped into 6 modes, and
by activity branch, classified according to the normalised sectorization A38, which corresponds
to groups of activities in the National Classification of Economic Activities CNAE 2009.
Information is collected through the Internet, by post, personal interview or telephone contact.
