Objectives

Using the statistics from the Statistical Population Register and the Sociodemographic database with a view to obtaining an exhaustive list of the population and of its main characteristics on the reference date 1 January of each year, thereby satisfying the needs of the various socio-economic stakeholders. In this way, very important information is obtained on population figures during inter-census periods regarding the first piece of information that demographic analysis is concerned with, namely the size of the population.

• Knowledge of the population of the Basque Country and of its main characteristics: age, sex and place of birth.
• Providing data at a municipal and infra-municipal level.
• Determining the evolution of the population over time and the maintenance of series
• Attending to the needs of various petitioners/users of this statistic (both internally and externally), who require rapid up-to-date information for pursuing their particular goals.
• To be used as the documentary basis for other statistical operations included in the Plan, such as the Demographic Indicators and Population Projections.
