Objective
Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) explain a significant part of productivity and the growth of the economy and are transforming our societies in a far-reaching and unprecedented way. Official statistics are essential for a detail understanding of the consequences of the transformations already underway. However, a correct selection of variables and indicators is important. One indicator that provides information on the relationship of people with the Information Society is the frequency with which people access the internet.
The population that uses the internet is calculated by dividing the number of people aged between 16 and 74 that have used the Internet in the last three months by the total population aged 16 to 74. The indicator is based on the Information Society Survey – Families (ESIF. The survery covers the whole populations that live in “households” and excludes those that reside in collective dwellings, such as shelters, student halls of residence, hospitals,...
