Concepts and Definitions
In order to understand how income is distributed among inhabitants in a territory, as well as to discover the average income of each inhabitant, the level of equality or inequality in income distribution must be determined. Two highly utilised indicators in economic variable distributions are the Gini Concentration Index and the Lorenz Curve.
The Gini Index is used to compare inequality in income distribution in different territories and its value is between 0 and 1, as such that the closer to 1, the greater the income concentration and the closer to 0, the more equitable the wealth distribution.
