Methodology according to the origin of the data.
Automatic gathering of data (concentration of pollutants) from the surveillance and monitoring stations via remote connections

Objectives

The main objective of these statistics is verifying compliance with the legally established limits for the concentration of pollutants and monitoring the development of parameters for pollution.

Main variables to be studied

The air quality index (aqi): hourly aqi and daily aqi.

Sustainability indicator: annual sustainability indicator and monthly sustainability indicator.

Index for urban population exposure to air pollution through ozone (o3): somo35 (“sum of means over 35”).

Index for urban population exposure to air pollution through any type of particulate matter (pm10): annual weighted average concentration of pm10 fine particulate matter (particles with a diameter of less than 10 microns), to which the urban population is potentially exposed.

Coverage

Population:

The emission data, which provide the basis for evaluating air quality, are compiled in around 51 air quality surveillance and monitoring stations. The number of monitoring stations may vary from one year to another.

Geographical:

The surveillance and monitoring stations are spread throughout the Basque Country and are classified into 8 geographical areas: encartaciones-alto nervión, bajo nervión, kostaldea, donostialdea, alto ibaizabal-alto deba, goierri, llanada alavesa and País Vasco ribera. Significant values at the basque country level are gathered and these 8 geographical areas are the maximum level of breakdown for the aqi.

Time frame:

The data gathered refer to activities registered over the year
