Automation of the response using XML file
ETR. Survey on tourist establishments is a monthly survey conducted by Eustat and aimed at tourist establishments in the Basque Country. It can be answered in three ways: paper questionnaire, on-line (web) questionnaire or through the XML file.
If you choose the telematic route (XML file), you will provide Eustat with detailed information, by day and origin of the traveller, for each and every day of the reference month.
This file is created directly by the informer in your usual management program. This eliminates much of the workload involved in collecting and writing/recording of the data requested in the questionnaire.
The conditions that this file must meet, both in its structure and content, are established and agreed upon and can be consulted here.
There are currently four defined XML file models:
- XML_H For hotels and guesthouses of any category
- XML_R para agroturismos y/o casas rurales
- XML_P para apartamentos turísticos
- Xml_B Para albergues turísticos
In all of them, the codification of the different countries (except Spain) is set out in ISO 3166_1 Alpha 3. It's available here: List of Countries
The process for loading these files is simple and intuitive. Each web channel, after identification of the user, offers the option of loading a file that fits its characteristics and informs of the validation process to be followed in order to achieve a complete and satisfactory load. What is an “XML file”? What are its advantages?
It is an electronic file, in XML format, with a pre-established structure and obtained as a result of a query made by the informant yourself, to the data that you have in your establishment's management program.
At the end of the reference period (month), the surveyed establishment will be able to generate its file XML, directly from its management program, with the information requested in our monthly questionnaires.
The file should then be uploaded to the Eustat web channel set up for this purpose and the instructions indicated therein should be followed.
The advantages of using this system are, among others, to reduce the response burden of the informant, to have all the necessary security guarantees to safeguard statistical confidentiality2 and to provide the highest quality and reliability of the information provided.
As an added value, upon successful completion of the XML file upload, Eustat offers you a personalized and comparative Occupancy Levels Report (by rooms and by places), spatially and temporally.
How to load the XML File?
After having generated and archived the XML file for the requested month on your PC.
- Access the Eustat portal that corresponds to your type of establishment
- Identify yourself with your password3
- Choose, if applicable, the reference month of the information
- Search on your computer –using the option Seleccionar archivo - for the XML file to be loaded
- Review / complete the questionnaire data
- Finish / send4 the questionnaire to Eustat
- You can also (optional)
- Print the questionnaire or save a copy (pdf) of it
What is needed to be able to use this response method?
- Have a computerized management system
- Have access to the internet
- Check, with your computer provider, the feasibility of implementing this functionality in your management system
- Implement it
From that moment on, you will be able to generate the required reports on a monthly basis
Does it have any economic cost?
Yes, but only its implementation and it varies depending on the management software used. We recommend that you check with your computer provider as it may already be integrated into your current software.
