The Gender Equality Index is a synthetic indicator that summarises the inequalities that still exist between men and women in a series of significant aspects that affect their welfare and their personal development.
It is calculated using the methodology of the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) in addition to data provided by the institute in all 27 countries that are currently part of the European Union. By using this methodology, we are able to compare advances in gender equality in the Basque Country to advances made in the countries of the European Union.
The methodology comprises 31 indicators structured hierarchically into six dimensions that are in turn divided into 14 subdimensions.
