Waste generation is one of the most important environmental problems that today’s societies must confront.
Levels of economic production and consumption have meant that there has been a continuous increase in the generation of waste.
As a consequence a normative and legislative framework has been under development at European, state and autonomous level with the aim of achieving an effective waste management and prevention policy.
The policy of the Basque Country regarding waste is based on the following principles:
a) Prevention and minimisation at the source, reducing productivity and harmfulness.
b) Incentivising reuse, recycling and any other forms of recovery and cycle closure.
c) Correct elimination of non-recoverable waste and introduction of measures necessary for its correct management.
As a consequence of all of this, information needs bring us to various waste statistics.
These are either centred on a type of waste or in objectives or more specific needs relating its management.
