INDICATORS OF THE 2030 AGENDA FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT. 2023
There was an increase in the proportion of agricultural area in the Basque Country under productive and sustainable agriculture
The evolution of this indicator is aligned with the second Sustainable Development Goal, which, among other things, promotes sustainable agriculture
Eustat remains committed to continuously expanding and disaggregating the set of statistical indicators that enable the achievement of the 169 targets and 17 Sustainable Development Goals included in the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the Basque Country to be quantified.
On this occasion, a total of 56 new statistical indicators were included on Eustat’s platform for the dissemination of indicators of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the Basque Country. Among them, 44 indicators have been defined following a methodology harmonised across the Autonomous Regions, thus guaranteeing their full and direct comparability. The remaining new indicators have been developed by Eustat following the recommendations of the United Nations, to provide information on as many global indicators as possible, taking into account the particularities of each geographical area of interest. 16 of the indicators are also disaggregated by municipality.
In addition, 2 indicators previously included on the Eustat dissemination platform have been disaggregated for each of the municipalities in the Basque Country. One of these is the Proportion of agricultural area under productive and sustainable agriculture, which went from 1.09% in the Basque Country as a whole in 2015 to 2.91% in 2021, demonstrating sustained growth over the last decade.
Among the indicators included on the Eustat platform for the first time are, for example, the Proportion of organic agricultural holdings and the Proportion of organic livestock holdings, which provide relevant information on United Nations indicator 2.4.1, including at the municipal level. Both indicators showed a continuous positive trend for the Basque Country as a whole in the period analysed.
The proportion of organic agricultural holdings went from accounting for 5.59% of the total in 2015 to 9.95% in 2022. In the case of livestock holdings, the percentage of organic holdings went from representing 0.72% of the total to 2.49% in the same period.
Eustat continues to work on including new indicators on the platform for the dissemination of indicators of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the Basque Country, in order to offer both disaggregated statistical indicators already published and to include new ones that provide information on targets not covered to date. The histogram below depicts the current number of indicators that provide information on each of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The inclusion of new indicators of those Sustainable Development Goals with the least information is a priority for Eustat, as is the geographical disaggregation of the indicators already available at the Basque Country level.
