Activity in the Construction sector in the Basque Country grew by 6.2% in 2023

In 2023, both Building and Civil Works posted growth of 5.6% and 9.8% respectively

For 2023 as a whole, activity in the construction sector in the Basque Country posted a nominal increase of 6.2% in relation to 2022, according to Eustat data. In the case of Building, cumulative growth for the year was 5.6% and a significant rate of 9.8% in that of Civil Works.

Focusing on the fourth quarter of 2023, the rate was 4.5% higher than that observed in the same quarter of the previous year. Compared to the previous quarter, activity increased by 1.1% once any seasonal effects had been eliminated and at current prices.

The year-on-year upturn this quarter is explained by both the positive performance of Building, which was up 4.6% in year-on-year terms, and that of Civil Works, which rose by 4.3% in the fourth quarter in respect of the same quarter of the previous year.

Comparing the activity of the sector in the fourth quarter of 2023 with that of the previous quarter, the Construction index increased by 1.1% once corrected for seasonal effects. Activity in Building rose by 1.0% compared to the previous quarter and that of Civil Works by 1.9%.

In the fourth quarter of 2023, following a 0.2% decrease in relation to the previous quarter, the index of employed people was 0.3% above that observed in the same quarter of 2022.

BALANCE FOR 2023

In 2023 as a whole, activity in the sector posted an increase of 6.2% in relation to 2022. In the case of Building, cumulative growth for the year stood at 5.6% and this was 9.8% in the case of Civil Works.

Finally, the cumulative index of people employed during 2023 was 0.2% higher than in the previous year.
