The difference in average hourly earnings between persons with disabilities and persons without disabilities decreased between 2015 and 2018

Eustat continues to include new indicators to report on progress towards the goals and targets of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

Eustat remains committed to continuously expanding and disaggregating the set of statistical indicators that enable the achievement of the 169 targets and 17 Sustainable Development Goals included in the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the Basque Country to be quantified.

On this occasion, a total of 26 new statistical indicators were included. The methodology for 11 of these statistical indicators has been fully harmonised in collaboration with the Autonomous Regions. The remaining indicators, 15 in total, have been specified following the United Nations guidelines and calculated, due to their relevance, for the Basque Country. In this regard, it is worth highlighting the strength of the Basque Country’s statistical system, which, thanks to its internal production, enables a large number of statistical indicators to be calculated.

One of the indicators included on Eustat’s platform for the dissemination of indicators of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the Basque Country is average hourly earnings of persons with disabilities and without disabilities. These statistical indicators supplement the United Nations indicator Average hourly earnings of employees, by sex, age, occupation and persons with disabilities.

We can see that average hourly earnings were higher in 2018 than in the reference year 2015, for both persons with disabilities and persons without disabilities. In the case of persons with disabilities, hourly earnings went from 14.10 euros in 2015 to 15.40 euros in 2018. As regards persons without disabilities, however, the increase was smaller, going from 18.50 euros in 2015 to 19.00 euros in 2019. As a result, the difference in average hourly earnings between persons with disabilities and without disabilities decreased during the period analysed (4.40 euros in 2015 compared to 3.60 euros in 2018).

7.57% of people in the Basque Country lived in households with large expenditures on health, greater than 10% of total household expenditure, in 2020.

As part of the expanded information on this occasion, two new statistical indicators were included that provide information on the United Nations indicator Proportion of population with large household expenditures on health as a share of total household expenditure or income: the proportion of people who live in households with large expenditures on health, greater than 10% and greater than 25% of total household expenditure.

There was an increase in the percentage of households with expenditure on health greater than 10% of total household expenditure, which rose from 6.76% in 2015 to 7.57% in 2020. However, during the period analysed, the proportion of people living in households where expenditure on health accounts for more than 25% of total household expenditure went from 1.59% in 2015 to 0.93% in 2020.

The incorporation of these new indicators also provides information on United Nations targets that, until now, have not been monitored in the Basque Country. In effect, the statistical indicator Proportion of small enterprises in total manufacturing value added was included, which provides information on United Nations target 9.3 (Increase the access of small-scale industrial and other enterprises, in particular in developing countries, to financial services, including affordable credit, and their integration into value chains and markets). The indicator was also broken down by province.

The proportion of manufacturing value added generated by small enterprises fell in the three provinces between 2015 and 2019. In Álava, it went from 16.95% in 2015 to 16.34% in 2019; in Bizkaia it fell from 26.87% to 24.99%; and, lastly, the drop was slightly bigger in Gipuzkoa, going from 25.27% to 23.26%.

Note. Work continues on including new indicators on the platform for the dissemination of indicators of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the Basque Country, in order to offer disaggregated indicators and to include new ones that provide information on targets not covered to date.
