Sales in the Trade sector in the Basque Country rose by 4.9% in the second quarter of 2022 hiruhilekoan

In the year-to-date, sales in the Trade sector as a whole increased by 4.8%, despite the negative evolution of Sale and repair of motor vehicles

In the second quarter of 2022 sales in the Trade sector, which encompasses Wholesale Trade, Retail Trade, and Sale & Repair of Motor Vehicles , increased by 4.9% in year-on-year terms, at constant prices and once corrected for calendar effects, according to Eustat data.

Compared to the previous quarter and once corrected for seasonal effects, sales rose by 0.7% in the second quarter of 2022.

Within Trade, the year-on-year evolution was positive in the branch of Wholesale Trade and in that of Retail Trade, with year-on-year growth in constant terms of 7.8% and 4.2%, respectively. In Sale & Repair of Motor Vehicles , however, sales were down 9.7% on the second quarter of 2021.

In relation to the previous quarter, sales increased by 1.5% in Wholesale Trade and by 0.8% in Retail Trade. In contrast, in the Sale & Repair of Motor Vehicles sector, sales were down 5.9% in quarter-on-quarter terms.

By province, in the second quarter of 2022 in the Trade sector as a whole, sales at constant prices in year-on-year terms increased by 7.3% in Bizkaia, by 2.9% in Álava and by 2.1% in Gipuzkoa.

In respect of the first quarter of 2022, sales rose in quarter-on-quarter terms by 1.6% in Bizkaia and by 0.1% in Álava, whereas in Gipuzkoa sales were down 0.3%.

The index of people employed in the Trade sector in the Basque Country rose by 1.3% in the first quarter of 2022 in relation to the first quarter of 2021. In respect of the first quarter of 2022, employment has remained stable.
