Industrial activity in the Basque Country rose by 3.6% in November 2019
The Industrial Production Index saw overall growth of 1.1% in the first eleven months of 2019
Industrial production of the Basque Country in November 2019 was up 3.6% compared to the same month of the previous year, in homogeneous terms of the working calendar, according to Eustat data. The balance for the first eleven months of 2019 closed with overall growth of 1.1% on the same period of 2018.
Compared to the previous month, October 2019, the industrial production of the Basque Country remained stable (0.0%), once seasonal effects had been corrected.

The performance of the index in November 2019 compared to November 2018 registered positive and negative results in the major industrial sectors according to their destination. Capital Goods rose by 11.00 %, Intermediate Goods were up by 1.1% and Consumer Goods, as a whole, increased by 0.8%. Among the latter, Consumer Durables rose by 4.1%, whilst Consumer Non-durables remained unchanged (0.0%). Finally, Energy was down 2.9%.
The month-on-month variation for November 2019 on October 2019 was positive for the sectors of Capital Goods, with growth of 2.1%, and Intermediate Goods, up 0.8%. In contrast, Energy dropped 7.8% whilst Consumer Goods as a whole were down 0.5% as a result of the 1.5% decrease in Consumer Non-durables since Consumer Durables rose by 4.0%.
Among the largest sectors in Basque industry, those that saw the most significant year-on-year growth in November 2019 were: Transport Material, with a rise of 22.6%; Electricity, Gas & Steam, up 3.6%; and Metallurgy & Metal Products, which increased by 2.6%.
In contrast, year-on-year decreases occurred in the following sectors: Food, Beverages & Tobacco, with a year-on-year drop of 1.6% and Timber, Paper & Graphic Arts, down 1.3%.
By province, the year-on-year performance of the Industrial Production Index for the month of November showed an upward trend in all three: it rose by 4.9% in Álava, by 3.5% in Bizkaia and 2.9% in Gipuzkoa.
