Overnight stays in tourist apartments in the Basque Country increased by 22.2% in June 2018
In hotels, rural accommodation and tourist apartments as a whole, there was a 7.9% increase in overnight stays in June
Overnight stays registered in tourist apartments of the Basque Country in June 2018 stood at 26,929, up 22.2% on those registered in June 2017, according to EUSTAT data.
There was a year-on-year upward trend in overnight stays in in the three provinces: in Álava they increased by 39.9%, in Gipuzkoa they grew by 38.8% and in Bizkaia they were up by 2.5%.
On the other hand, there were 8,420 visitors registered in tourist apartments in the Basque Country in June 2018, which was a rise of 13.8%. By province, the number of visitors was up 42.9% in Álava and 38.8% in Gipuzkoa, whereas there was a drop of 7.2% in Bizkaia.
This June the average length of stay was 3.20 days, above the average length of stay of 2.98 days registered in June 2017. In Álava there was a decrease from 5.86 days last year to 5.74 days in June of this year; in Bizkaia there was an increase from 2.51 days to 2.77 days; in Gipuzkoa the average length of stay was 2.71 days, the same as in June 2017.
Tourist balance for June 2018
In hotels, rural accommodation and apartments as a whole, there were 310,747 visitors in June 2018, which was an increase of 4.8% with respect to the same month of the previous year. 46.2% of the total number of visitors to the Basque Country was concentrated in Bizkaia, and total visitor numbers rose by 2.7%. In Gipuzkoa, which accumulated 39.6% of visitors to the Basque Country, there was an increase of 6.5% and in Álava, with 14.1% of visitors, there was a rise of 7.3%.
Overnight stays in the total number of tourist establishments were up by 7.9%, with an increase of 10.6% in Álava, 8.4% in Gipuzkoa and 6.5% in Bizkaia.
